Kiwi’s Love a Great Pie

Kiwi’s love a good pie with the growth of Mrs Mac’s sales in New Zealand currently at an all time high. It is a relatively small team bringing pies to the people there, with Key Account Manager Dennis Cook playing an integral role in ensuring we satisfy that mince and cheese pie craving for our friends across the ditch!

Dennis’s journey with Mrs Mac’ s began a decade ago, “It began somewhat serendipitously when on 22 February 2011 the Café I was Chef at was closed (as was most of Christchurch) by an earthquake expediating an abrupt career change. Since then in my time at Mrs Mac’s I have transitioned through multiple roles as the bakery has grown and now have a more project and national focus.”

Dennis believes that Mrs Mac’s is well on its way to achieving iconic pastry status in New Zealand with consumers devouring his favourite range, the Kiwi Mega rolls, for that quick but satisfying one handed eat and, through recent supermarket growth, ensuring the at home consumer is catered for with the multipacks of pies to feed the family.

His passion for both the business and the products is evident and he believes that Mrs Mac’s at its heart is a genuinely supportive family business.

“I have welcomed calls from Chairman & CEO during times of personal crisis and been reassured to see the same extended to my colleagues at times when the odds seemed insurmountable. Professionally, the bakery has offered successive projects that have been challenging & rewarding. The collaborative nature of projects and the skill sets within the current teams’ environment are resulting in increasingly rewarding outcomes. Ultimately, Mrs Mac’s to me is the ‘Genuine Pie Moments’ that we enable.”

When Dennis isn’t out in the world of pies, you’ll find him with his guitar in hand strumming a bit of acoustic blues and ragtime or wearing his ‘Director’ hat for his young son Louis’ YouTube content! He’s also known throughout the company for his infamous live tour and cross during a Ketch-up team meeting from Cathedral Square during the Australian COVID lockdowns – roving reporter could well be his next career move!
